The meerkat’s scientific name is Suricata Suricatta and their family name is Herpestidae. A Meerkat’s run can be faster than a humans walk.
Meerkats live in the Kalahari desert in Botswana. They live in groups to over 40 Meerkats. They dig large underground tunnels and when a predator comes they go down their tunnels and hide.
Meerkats have brown fur. They use their tail to balance while they are standing on two legs. A male meerkat weighs about 730g and females weigh about 720g.
Meerkats eats both plants and animals which means they are omnivores, they eat bugs, fruit birds and eggs.
Meerkat babies are called pups, the pups weigh about 36 grams.
A Meerkat is also called a Suricate.
Meerkats are part of the mongoose family.
Meerkats are not endangered so no one needs to worry about them. They should be around for a long long time
